Monday, October 3rd, 2016 has been declared a public Holiday to mark Nigeria's 56th independence Anniversary. This was contained in a statement released by the minister of interior, Lt Gen (rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazu and signed by the Acting permanent Secretary, Ministry of interior, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido. The minister congratulates Nigerians at home and abroad on the commemoration of this year's independence anniversary and assures that the government is putting measures in place to ameliorate the current economic challenges. He finally called on all Nigerians to keep supporting President Muhammadu Buhari is his avowed determination to build a strong, virile and united country in the line with the dream of the country's founding fathers.

When Miss Faizal Abubakar Sani, 17, a former student of Olumaw school, Abuja, was writing her west Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, WASSECE, few months ago, little did she knowthat the examination would earn her scholarship to study any course of her choice in any university in the world of her choosing. As fortune smiles on her, Faizal's scholarship as stated by the Kano state Government, where she hails from, will know no bounds, as it covers university education in any foreign country to whatever level she wants. Faizal, who was celebrated by her alma-mater, Olamawu School, Abuja; had nine A1 in the may/June 2016 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has disclosed that it has introuduced e-marker in examination process, begining with the ongoing November/december examination nationwide. According to the Head of WAEC National Office, Mr Olutise Adenipekun, the innovation will help in the assessment of theoretical questions such that marking will no longer be done manually but electronically. he mentioned that this development, candidates will no longer be able to take their theory questions home after theory questions home after their examinations, as answer booklets will now be merged with the question papers. He however, stated that the development does not mean that teachers who were engaged by WAEC in the manual marking will now be disengaged byt rather will be used to handle the electronic-marking project.

Enugu -Enugu House of Assembly has given its support for competence examination for principals of secondary schools in the state organised by the Post Primary Management Board (PPSMB). Mr Mathew Ugwueze, the chairman of the House committee on Education, made this known on Monday in Enugu while speaking on a petition by some school principals challenging the examination.
