FUTMINNA Produces 34 First Class As 3,734 StudentsGraduate

The Federal University of Technology, Minna has produced 34 First Class and 35 PhD graduates out of 3,734 graduating students in the 2015/2016 session. This  was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, professor Musbau Akanji while briefing newsmen concerning the 26th Convocation ceremony and 35th Founder's Day Celebration. According to him, 2,788 will receive first degrees, 637 will be awarded Masters degrees, 35 will be bag PhDs while another 274 will be awarded Postgraduates Diplomas. In the first degree category, the VC revealed that 790 graduating students obtained Second Class Upper division. 70 graduating students attained Pass degree. However, the University will no longer award Pass degrees to students.

UNIOSUN Declares A Mid-Semester Break, After Students Protest

The management of Osun State University (Uniosun) two days back ordered students of the institution to proceed on mid semester break with immediate effect. According to reports the sudden break may be connected with students' protest over the death of a student who allegedly died as a result of negligence from the Hospital Management. A press release by the Police Public Relations Officer, Folashade Odoro stated that the students mobilized to protest the death of the student which generated shootings. The management of the hospital told newsmen that the deceased was advised to be admitted on Sunday when she came for treatment but declined, he noted that she was rushed in critical situation and efforts to resuscitate her proved abortive. Meanwhile, the indigenous association of students, Osogbo National Students Union (ONSU) has demanded the probe of the policemen arrested over the shooting of the two students, lamenting that the incident disturbed the peace of the communit

JAMB To Start 2017 Sales Of Form Soon, Agrees On Exam Timetable With WAEC, NECO, NABTEB

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) yesterday disclosed that it has agreed on a harmonised time-table with other examination bodies (WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB) ahead of 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to ensure a hitch free examination. According to the JAMB's spokesman. Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in a statement in Abuja, the harmonised examination timetable had put to rest problems arising from overlapping of examination dates which would have disqualified a good number of candidates from participating in the examination. It was resolved at the meeting that WAEC from 2018, between March and April, will create a window of two weeks where all other examinations that have nothing to do with Nigeria will be held so as to allow a window for JAMB to conduct its examination. The statement also revealed that the examination bodies agreed that for the purpose of the 2017 UTME, JAMB would shift its examinations to allow students face WAEC, NECO and NABTEB

3 Arrested For Selling Fake Jamb Forms In Ekiti State

Three persons suspected to be selling fake JAMB forms have been arrested by the officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ado-Ekiti State capital. The suspected who described themselves as ''education consultants'', were arrested at Adebayo and Secretariat Road with counterfeit JAMB forms, cell phones and laptops. it was learnt that following complaints from concerned individuals that some outlets had begun the sale of 2017/2018 matriculation form, JAMB officials and NSCDC officers went round some cyber cafes and some arrrest were made. State JAMB Coordinator Dele Onileowo said the culprits were arrested with 20 orms bearing the names and logo of the agency with applicants passport pphotos on them. Onileowo pointed out that the sale of JAMB forms was yet to be announced and appealed parents, guardians and students to be wary of fraudsters.

JAMB Collaborates With NYSC To Tackle mobilization Of Over-Aged Corps Members

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National youth Service Corps have resolved to step up measures to check fraudulent practices by prospective corps members. This was the subject of discussion during the visit by the JAMB Registrar, professor Ishaq Oloyede, to the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kuzaure, at the NYSC National Directorate headquarters. professor Oloyede noted that applicants for change of date of birth being forward to JAMB were mostly from over-aged persons who want to get mobilized for the national service. he explained that since his assumption of duty as Registrar, Jamb has been been taking measures to  block harps practices, while also seeking enhanced inter-agency's renewed commitment to eliminating sharp practices. Kazure said a bilateral committee would be set to address all the areas of concern raised vy the Registrar. he thanked the JAMB Management for the cordial relationship with the NYSC.

JAMB Shuts Down Websites Having ''Jamb'' Attached To Their Domain Names

Report reaching me is has it that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has shut down blogs and websites that have ''jamb'' attached to  their domain names in order too ensure they do not end up defrauding unsuspecting individuals. This was disclosed by one of the owners of the affected sites. According to him, he received a mail from his web hos concerning the development. The mail reads, '' We got a complaint from JAMB through National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on a number of domain names that are defrauding Nigerians using variant of their name (JAMB), your website was listed among them, and we were instructed to investigate and suspend all the domain names involved'' ''We communicated the information to the Registrars of the domain names in question  and requested them to kindly investigate and take the appropriate action

LASU SSANU, NASU Embarks On A 5-Day Warning Strike

The non-academic staff of Lagos State university, LASU has embarked on a five-day warning strike as directed by the Joint Committee, JAC, of the unions in the institution to press their demands. UNILAG 2 Graduating Students Attain 5.0 CGPA As 8,000 Matriculate

Two graduating students of the University of Lagos have also recorded 5.00 Grade Point Average (CGPA) in 2015/2016 academic session, just like Ayodele Dada recorded same feat in the previous year. JAMB meets WAEC, NECO, to fix 2017 UTME Date

JAMB has now concluded plans to fix the dates for the 2017 UTME. This was made known yesterday by the Head, media and information of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin. Members of the JAMB board have been scheduled to meet with board members of the WAAEC, NECO and NABTEB on Tuesday, 17th January, to find suitable dates for the 2017 UTME. Remember that the new JAMB CBT no longer hold in one day, and may require couple of days i.e 2 weeks to fully rest all candidates, who apply for the exam. This meeting will therefore help avoid clashes in exam dates for other exam bodies, a problem experienced in previous exams. According to Mr Fabian, this is the final preparation required before the Sale of 2017 UTME Registration Forms can commence. We therefore hope that another press briefing will be conducted just after the meeting on 17th January, to reveal the possible 2017 UTME Dates, and when sale of registration forms will commence.

Lecturer Warns Students Against Paying More Attention To Entertainment

Undergraduates in the country have been called upon to focus on their academics or risk affecting their future adversely by being carried away by the height of achievements in the entertainment industry. FG Plans To Establish An Aviation University - Minister

The Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika,on Saturday, said plans were underway to establish Aviation University to promote research, development and production of higher level of management manpower for the industry. The Federal University of Technology, Minna has expelled 700 students for various offences ranging from bad behaviour to poor academic performance in the 2015/2017 academic session. The institution's vice-chancellor, Prof. Musbau Akanji, revealed this on Thursday during the 30th matriculation ceremony of the university in Minna Akanji said the majority of the students were expelled due to low academic performance and anti-social behaviour. According to him, the university has cancelled the practice of awarding pass mark for the first degree courses, while the score has raised. Consequently, most of those expelled did not score above 1.5 out of a possible GPA of 5.0. He said university hopes to reduce the high rate of failures recorded last year, adding that tutorial lecturers from the Postgraduate school would be engaged to assist the students.
